WORKSHOPS > DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE: Understanding and Embracing Differences
In the new millennium, diversity in the workplace is more evident than ever before, and yet the skills to understand, embrace and positively utlilise this diversity are often neglected or obscured by ignorance, indiffernece or fear. This workshop takes a radical approach to the complex issue of diversity, examining the psychological background to the issue of discrimination as a means of overcoming the limitations of prejudice. Topics covered include:
Understanding the 'fear factor' of ageism and dispelling the myth that older people cannot learn or are slow to adapt.
Developing strategies to deal with sexism, and an insight into how and why it is programmed into both sexes from an early age.
An overview of techniques to tackle racism in the workplace, both explicit and implicit.
Confronting homophobia, including the subtle effects of internalised homophobia and self-confidence issues.
This workshop will be tailored to emphasise the specific requirements of a group or working environment. There are many sizeable issues that fall under the heading of 'diversity', though many of the basic psychological patterns and challenges underlying them all are fundamentally similar. So, too, are some of the most effective strategies and techniques which help make the work environment more open, embracing and tolerant...and productive!
